City hosts successful careers exhibition in Gugulethu

On Friday, 17 October 2025, the City of Cape Town warmly welcomed Grade 12 learners from Gugulethu, Manenberg, Heideveld, Nyanga and Philippi high schools at the Gugulethu Sports Complex. The learners had the opportunity to engage with 32 exhibitors on career paths, further study options and employment opportunities.
‘As a caring city, we are focused on creating more opportunities for the young leaders of tomorrow. At this career expo, we empowered learners and unemployed youth with exposure to learning and employment opportunities as they interacted with various City directorates and our partners in skills development, higher learning institutions, SETAs, state enterprises and private companies. I hope that all the young men and women left feeling inspired, energised, more informed and ready to keep climbing the ladder of success,’ said the Corporate Services Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Councillor Fabian Ah-Sing who was accompanied by local ward councillor, Councillor Thembinkosi Mjuza.

• Manenberg High School
• Heideveld Secondary School
• Cathkin Secondary School
• Phoenix Secondary School
• Oscar Mpetha High School
• Sithembele Matiso High School
• Dr Nelson Mandela High School
The 32 exhibitors included seven City directorates, SEDA, MER SETA, Transnet, Eskom, Microsoft, SA Aviation Authority, Pathcare, NSFAS, and several institutions of higher learning to name a few.
‘Our vision is to be the city of hope for all. To be a prosperous, inclusive and healthy city where people can see and fulfil their hopes for a better future for themselves, their children and their community. In this financial year the City created 1 700 external training opportunities and 209 apprenticeships for young, unemployed job seekers. Furthermore, we plan to create 1 007 external training opportunities and 251 apprenticeships in the new financial year,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
